Those soft metals matter, because an adjuster is far more likely to concede a date-of-loss hail event when the collateral evidence lines up with the marks on the shingles.
A Stacker analysis of NOAA data found Cook County averaged roughly 78 severe weather events per year between 2010 and 2020, including about 17.7 hail events annually. In a village with this much same-age roofing, that frequency is the whole story — the question is usually not whether a roof was exposed, but which exposure caused the damage a homeowner is now claiming.
